Hand surgery is a demanding specialty that lies at the intersection of technical precision, scientific innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration. It requires highly specialized expertise, advanced continuous training, and a constant commitment to excellence in patient care.

It is within this spirit that the Luxembourg Society for Surgery of the Hand (LSSH) was founded.

​

For several years, Luxembourg has hosted internationally recognized European training programs at Hôpitaux Robert Schuman, including the European Hand Course and the European Flap Course. These prestigious courses bring together hand surgeons from across Europe each year for high-level scientific and practical education, fostering the exchange of expertise, technical innovation, and the transmission of knowledge.

The Luxembourg Society for Surgery of the Hand was born from this shared commitment to excellence, education, and international collaboration.

The mission of the LSSH is to bring together physicians and all healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of hand, wrist, and upper limb disorders throughout Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Our society is dedicated to promoting the advancement of hand surgery through education, research, scientific collaboration, and the exchange of expertise among specialists.

The Society aims to serve as a dynamic platform encouraging collaboration between the various disciplines involved in hand care, including trauma surgery, reconstructive surgery, microsurgery, peripheral nerve surgery, arthroscopy, hand therapy, and rehabilitation. Through these multidisciplinary exchanges, we aspire to contribute actively to the development and international recognition of modern hand surgery in Luxembourg and throughout the European network.

A major milestone for our young society will be the organization of the First LSSH Symposium, to be held in September 2027 at Neumünster Abbey in Luxembourg. This inaugural meeting will bring together national and international experts around a dedicated scientific theme. The first edition will focus on the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint, widely regarded as one of the most challenging joints in hand surgery.

The LSSH is also committed to supporting young surgeons and physicians in training by promoting educational activities, practical workshops, academic collaborations, research initiatives, and humanitarian missions. We firmly believe that the transmission of knowledge and the exchange of experience are essential drivers of medical progress and the continuous improvement of patient care.
